Further concerns raised about use of facial recognition technology in UK – ‘effectively privatized policing’

(Image by Tumisu from Pixabay ) A recent inquiry by the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee into the levels of shoplifting theft in the UK has raised a number of ongoing concerns on the use of facial recognition technology by retailers and other businesses. Peers on the Committee argued that regulation and best practice guidance needs to be brought forward for the adoption fo the “controversial” technology, which it equated to what is essentially “privatised policing”.
