How Public-Private Partnerships Offer Hope Amid The Brutality In Myanmar, Afghanistan And The Philippines

With responsibility for more than 18,000 people providing humanitarian assistance in more than 80 countries globally, Yves Daccord has a pretty good read on the increasingly complex challenges facing millions of people, from asymmetric conflicts, to the violent effects of climate change — and he says technology and smart public-private sector partnerships are vital in bringing relief to those in need.

Speaking to FORBES in Hong Kong, Daccord, director-general of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said Asia was both home to some of the world’s biggest issues and a source of many of the potential solutions.

“Our top priority right now in Asia is Myanmar. We’re confronted with an issue which is complex — more than 600,000 people have fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh – and I think it’s a situation that will last,” he said, referring to the Rohingya, a stateless mainly Muslim minority from western Rakhine state who have long faced persecution there.
