Arguably one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing tech fields nowadays, the self-driving vehicle industry is becoming increasingly competitive, making proprietary technology protection and talent retention of crucial importance.

One of the leading players on the self-driving auto market, Uber, is actually facing mounting controversy over allegations of intellectual property theft. More specifically, Anthony Levandowski, the co-founder of Otto, Uber’s self-driving trucking company, is being sued by Waymo, Google’s former self-driving car unit, for allegedly stealing its proprietary designs. Waymo claimed its former employee downloaded thousands of confidential files on its laser-based vehicle radar system before leaving. Uber, however, has rejected the allegations as merely an attempt by Waymo to stall and discredit the competition.
