A severe security vulnerability in Android devices powered by MediaTek chips is being actively exploited in the wild but while Google LLC has issued a patch many devices are unlikely to ever receive it. The vulnerability allows hackers to gain root access to a targeted device, giving them the ability to install their own applications.
