The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is increasingly aggressively targeting malicious online actors, taking a range of proactive measures – including apparent dark web data mining – to proactively identify stolen credit card numbers, for example, which can then be passed on to financial services institutions to shut down. Details on that project, dubbed “Operation Haulster”, remain closely held, but the NCSC annual report suggests an automated data mining approach.
