Did Chinese government hackers really plant spy chips in Apple and Amazon servers?

Bloomberg dropped a bombshell report last week that the Chinese government had used some of the its hardware component manufacturers to install a surveillance chip, half the size of a grain of rice, on the motherboards of hundreds of thousands of data servers sold by San Jose-based Supermicro, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of server motherboards. Supermicro imports pre-built components from China to assemble its servers.
